Présentation de Abraham Weizfeld, candidat dans D'Arcy-McGee

Abraham Weizfeld est issu d’une famille de survivants de l’Holocauste. Il est né à Toronto, après avoir été conçu dans un camp des réfugiés en Allemagne. Bien qu’il ait été élevé dans la culture Yiddish, il a appris l’anglais, à Toronto, ainsi que le français, à Montréal, où il vit maintenant depuis 20 ans avec son fils. À Toronto, il a commencé ses études en sciences mais a changé pour des études en politique. Il a notamment travaillé comme chargé de cours en économie politique du Canada à l’Université York.

Il est venu à Montréal pour poursuivre ses études doctorales en science politique à l’Université du Québec à Montréal, où il a complété sa thèse sur l’Identité nationale. Depuis 1967, il milite pour les droits nationaux du peuple palestinien. Il est co-fondateur de la coalition l’Alliance de Canadien/nes juif/ves concerné/es. Durent ses 20 ans comme Montréalais, il a fondé le centre culturel La Galerie Fôkus, qui expose des oeuvres d’artistes défavorisés.

Abraham Weizfeld was born to a family of survivors from the Holocaust. He was born in Toronto and conceived in a refugee camp in Germany. Raised in the Yiddish culture he adopted English and French while living in Toronto and Montréal where he has now lived for 20 years with his son. In Toronto he began his studies in science but changed to political studies out of priority and worked as a lecturer in Canadian political economy at York University.

He has arrived in Montréal to continue his doctoral studies in political science at l’Université du Québec à Montréal where he completed his Thesis on national identity. Since 1967 he has spoken out for the national rights of the Palestinian People and is the co-founder of the coalition the Alliance of Concerned Jewish Canadians. During his 20 years in Montréal he founded the cultural centre La Galerie Fôkus which exhibits the work of disadvantaged artists.
